Rupert Giles mused as he drank a last cup of tea before bed. The subject of
his thoughts was as always, his Slayer, Buffy.

She rides the night
Next to me#
Now they were back close together as Watcher and Slayer, her presence was a constant
reminder of all his secret hopes and dreams.

Only to burn me with the sun
She's taken my heart
But she doesn't know what she's done#
He was so proud of her standing up to that pillock Parker, even if she was slightly Neolithic
at the time. 'She's had rotten luck with love. I do hope she finds a boy who will love her as
much as I do.'

He was becoming concerned at his growing inability to hide his reactions to her when they
were training. Just the scent of her shampoo had him breathing heavily,
she of course, thought he was exhausted, never considering the force of will
her Watcher was exerting to stop himself from kissing his Slayer until her toes curled.

With only a dream#
'I'm just "very old and gross". Although 'Liv didn't seem to think so.'

'God, I can never leave her now. She doesn't need me, but I will be here for her even if I have
to watch her date every male on campus except me. I'm not whole without her.'

He finished the tea and turning out the lamps, began to climb the stairs to his
bedroom when he heard a sound outside his front door.
