__Can You Feel The Love Tonight__
By Angelwakes
'It's very late, but I need to check in.' Buffy halted, her hand about to
knock on Giles' door. 'God I just need to see him once more today. I want to
say goodnight.' She knocked, unaware of the six eyes following her every move.

"Oh yeah I almost forgot, guys, we won't be able to hear their thoughts." Raising her eyebrows
at Xander's crestfallen expression, Willow she added, "Do you want to hear Buffy's thoughts about
Giles?" The 'ewwws' she received in reply answered that question. "Heads up! Door's opening."

"Hey, Watcher-mine! Before you ask; Slayer: three. Bad Guys: nil." A quick scan of the room
showed a few opened books on the table, a half drunk mug of tea on the coffee table and a few
scattered papers on other surfaces. The muted lighting made it feel warm and
inviting as she stood on the threshold. Smiling up at her Watcher,
she stepped into the apartment. 'Oh God! I wish I could stay here forever.'
Giles' eyes widened as he looked at her. 'I could have sworn I
heard Buffy say something.' He shook his head and put it down to too
much researching. He'd been working for hours, maybe he should take a break.
#There's a calm surrender
To the rush of day
When the heat of the rolling world
Can be turned away
An enchanted moment
And it sees me through
It's enough for this restless warrior
Just to be with you#
She walked into the kitchen and went to get a bottle of water
from the fridge. Giles moved slightly to have an unobstructed view of his
slayer's rear as she bent over to reach her drink. He smiled as she
straightened up and downed the drink in one go.
'My God! That smile! Hope my legs stop wobbling before I have to walk back in there.'
Giles frowned; he knew he heard Buffy talking but she was drinking, unless, 'Oh, dear Lord!
A spell! A mind-reading spell!' He could come clean or... a wicked smile
worthy of Ripper at his best appeared on the Watcher's face... he could learn
what his Slayer *really* thought of him. By her last unspoken comment this
looked like being a very interesting night indeed.
#Can you feel the love tonight?
It is where we are
It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we got this far
And can you feel the love tonight
How it's laid to rest?
It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best#
It was just as well that Buffy missed the visit from Ripper
as she walked into the sitting room. She was still trying to control her
shaking limbs. She sank into the sofa with a contented sigh and closed
her eyes. 'Mmmmmm feels nice, all warm and... Gilesy. Giles was sitting here.' She took a deep
breath, as though trying to absorb his very essence into herself. 'God, Summers, you've got it
bad... getting happies from the way his chair feels.' She opened her eyes to see her Watcher
regarding her with a totally blank expression.
'Happies? She gets happies? What kind of happies?'
#There's a time for everyone
If they only learn
That the twisting kaleidoscope
Moves us all in turn
There's a rhyme and reason
To the wild outdoors
When the heart of this star-crossed voyager
Beats in time with yours#
"Hey! Earth to Giles, are you there, Watcher-mine?"
"Very funny," he cleared his throat, "So patrol went well?" 'Well done, keep it professional
until you know what the hell is happening. At least she can't read my thoughts.' The contents
of some of his previous inner musings made him shudder with trepidation as he thought about
her reaction if she learnt about them.
"I told you; Vamps nil, Buffy, three." 'God did he just shudder? I wonder what I would have to
do to make him shudder like that? More than just kissing, Oh yeah, I'll bet! Oh God, I
want him.'

That we got this far

Giles couldn't stop the startled expression on his face as he heard her last words.
"Giles?"
"B-Buffy, I th-think we're..." He stopped, a sudden memory returning. 'Oh Hell! The
Mind-Link spell.' It was created to help couples in marital
difficulties. The only problem was that it only lasted for
fifteen minutes, each. Which meant, as he glanced at his watch, in roughly
one minute his Slayer would be able to read his every unuttered
word.
"We're what, Giles?"
************
The two men turned to look at Willow. "Ummm, oops!"
"Wil..low. In which book did you find that spell, exactly?"
"One of Giles'."
"And you didn't think he would recognise it?"
"We're toast!"
