__BeeGee #1 Buffy Summers__
By AngelWakes
Buffy walked into the dorm room she shared with her best friend
Willow and froze as she noticed an unfamiliar noise in the otherwise
silent room. Her 'Spidey Sense' was not going off so she relaxed a
little and warily scanned the room, this was still the Hellmouth
after all. The Slayer laughed when she realised what had freaked her
out.
The computer they shared - ' Ok, Will uses and I just try to ignore'
she corrected herself - was humming slightly, it had been left
running. Despite thinking she had shut down, Willow had only switched
the monitor off.
'Poor Will,' thought Buffy 'she's still so sad about Oz leaving like
that. I'll shut it down for her and we can go for ice-cream and girl
talk after her Wicca group tonight.'
She pulled out the chair, sat down, and switched on the monitor
running her eyes over the screen in front of her. 'Hmm Yahoo? that
looks like a net thing Will was working on.'
The Slayer took a moment to bless Jenny Calendar who had insisted
all the Scoobies had a small amount of computer smarts in case Willow
was unavailable in an emergency. She looked for the button to close
the page when she noticed her name on the screen. 'Wierd, what's Will
doing typing my name on the net?' Buffy was confused. She sat for a
moment before deciding to do a little snooping of her own. She
clicked the search button and waited for the results. 'I wonder how
many Buffys there are out there' she mused. 'Oh wait here it
is...........WHAT?!'
The various results slammed into her disbelieving brain;
TV SHOWS - BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER - HORROR
1 - 20 OF 3,920 000 SITES
EPISODE GUIDE - CAST LIST - FANFICTION - FANART
"What the *HELL* is going on and what the heck is fanfiction anyway?"
Rational thought returned slowly to her fevered brain and the Slayer
decided she had two choices. One, she could forget she had ever found
this information, or two, snoop some more and find out how closely
the show mirrored her own life, why she had never seen it even listed
let alone watched it, and what fanfiction was, it sounded interesting.
"And behind door number two we have........."
Two hours later.......
"I'll just drop these books off and then we can talk some more,'kay
Tara?"
'Oh my God is it that time already!' She started as she heard
Willow's voice getting closer to the door and Buffy frantically began
shutting down the computer.
"Hi Buffy! What are you doing?" The blonde jumped up from the
computer as her friend walked into the room.
"Nothing! Nope, not a thing, just testing the chair, yep, comfy
chair umm.. got to patrol bye Will!" She flew out of the room past a
very surprised Willow and another girl.
"Sorry Tara, that was Buffy, I promise she doesn't act like that all
the time" pausing a moment Willow thought and then continued "In fact
that was wierd, she never babbles like that. Actually something may
be wrong.. can we talk another time soon?"
"S.sure" Tara smiled shyly "Bye Willow."
Willow watched her leave and then tried to figure out the cause of
Buffy's strange behaviour. 'Let me see, she was sitting in the
computer chair. Why was Buffy on the computer, she hates using it.
I'll just boot up and see if I can find out what caused the
wiggage, 'cause she was definately wigging about something. Oh
Goddess! I was on the net before Wicca group. Did I forget to shut it
down again? What was I working on? Please not the Buffy sites! Oh
Goddess! That's it!!!'
Willow accessed the history on the computer knowing the computer
shy Slayer wouldn't realise the sites she had visited would be
recorded. Therefore Buffy wouldn't have thought to delete them.
"Goddess! Oh Goddess! Wow!!! Oh very wow! She's been reading
fanfiction and oh wow! It's Buffygiles.com, that's fanfiction with
her and Giles! Does that mean she likes Giles as in *likes* likes
him? In an *I want to have smoochies* way? Ok Willow stop babbling,
get snooping."
She settled back in the chair and clicked on the site name. 'Right
what stories did she read? Wow again! Romance and smut! Buffy read
Giles smut! I so need to talk to her! Just wait 'til she gets back!'
The Slayer was so wrapped up in her thoughts when she returned from
a totally slayless patrol, that she failed to notice her roommate
sitting cross legged in the middle of her bed almost bouncing with
badly concealed excitement.
"Well?!" Willow impatiently demanded, anxious for an explaination
for her friend's odd behaviour.
"Huh.. oh patrol was a wipeout, no slayage at all, in fact it may be
Watcher time 'cos bad guy action has been slow for a while."
'Yes! Score! What a perfect opening' The redhead thought glancing
slyly at the distracted Slayer.
"So Buff, about Giles?"
"Umm..yeah?" She automatically answered, absently humming his name
aloud. "Giles...." She let out a low moan 'God it's hot in here!' The
Slayer unobtrusively fanned herself.
Willow smirked slightly and asked, "how long have you wanted to do
the wacky with him?"
"Forever." The confession escaped the Slayer before her hazy mind
could reel it back in.
"Yippee!!! It's about time!" Willow nearly bounced off the bed in
elation.
"What?!" Willow's shout bought Buffy crashing back to reality. "Hold
on Will, I never meant to say that!"
"Yup, I know, but you do want him don't you?" Willow quickly
interjected before her friend moved totally into denial land. "So
come on spill. What made you have the warm fuzzies for Giles? Oh, oh,
and does he know? What did he say?"
"Ok first off Will, how much caffeine have you had tonight? And where
did you get the wiggy idea that I have warm fuzzies for Giles?" Buffy
tried to back-pedal quickly.
"Uh huh no changing the subject," - 'it was only two coffees' she
admitted to herself 'but that was only so I'd be awake when Buffy
came back' - "and you just said forever so come on, spill."
"Fine, whatever Will, I'll spill but you have to tell me about the
TV show 'cos that is just freaky."
"Again with the subject change, if I tell you my theory then you
must tell me what you were thinking when you read those stories about
you and Giles." Willow sat and waited for the coming protestations of
denial but she was astounded by the total look of love on her
friend's face.
"I was thinking of how much I love him and what part of those fics
were true, 'cos if they are....well *wow* I will never be able to
look at him again without blushing."
"Okay" - 'Goddess she loves him' - "That's enough for now. The TV
show...well I only just found out about it and I have a few ideas we
can toss around, if it doesn't wig you too much? The red-head looked
hopefully at her best friend.
"Well if we're doing this, and it sounds a lot like research Will,
then we need ice-cream and chocolate to help my brain work properly."
Buffy grinned at Willow and thought it would be a relief to talk
about her love for her Watcher and...hey! why wasn't Will wigging
about the idea of her and Giles!
Supplies gathered, the two friends settled down for a healthy
session of girl talk. Buffy rested back against the piilows piled on
her bed getting comfortable.
"'Kay Will, what do you want to know?" She mumbled around a mouthful
of chocolate chip cookie dough.
"Everything, and start from the beginning. Like, when did you start
looking at Giles as smoochie material?" She smiled at the look that
ghosted across the blonde's face.
"I'll tell but there's a lot of stuff, so let me get it out, and
then start the inquisition please." Buffy pleaded with her friend.
Willow nodded her agreement and mimed zipping her lips shut.
"It was Prom. Giles in a tux, he looked so sexy, but then Angel
turned up and the moment passed. Then when Angel left I thought about
how he was supposed to love me and he walked away and Giles stayed
for me even when he was fired and that felt good, you know like there
was someone who would always be there for me, like a friend, not a
father like that jerk Travers said."
Her friend nodded again, still silent, she got it, friends at that
point. 'Smoochies now please,' she begged with her eyes.
"I felt like that and pushed the fuzzy feelings away until I found
the computer up and stumbled across fanfiction. Oh my God Will! The
things they wrote! if it's true then Giles must be a sex god! And now
I can't get naughty Watchery thoughts out of my head. I am so not
looking forward to training Will, I'm never going to think of him as
just Giles any more. He was just my friend but now I'm thinking of
him as a man, a sexy man who I think I love. I love Giles and we both
know me and love are unmixy things. What am I going to do?"
Willow stared at her friend amazed at the depth of Buffy's feelings
and her honesty in sharing them. The fact that Buffy loved Giles was
not a surprise, the whole gang had noticed how close the Watcher and
Slayer had been getting. After her problems with a demon roommate
Giles had been more attentive towards Buffy, even Xander had noticed
and made a joke about them behaving like a married couple. What no
one had noticed, except for Willow, was the look on Giles' face at
the off-hand comment. She didn't think Giles would object to Buffy
smoochies at all, no sir, not at all.
"Wow Buff you really love him, that's so great, you two are so right
for each other... destined even," they shared a smile at this, "we
just have to find out how Giles feels about you and I may just have a
plan. we need a Scooby meeting tomorrow, I'll call Xander and we can
meet at Giles' in the morning."
At her friend's stricken look Willow assured the nervous Slayer that
it would all be fine and they could research the television show as
well. What she failed to mention was she had a small inkling that
Giles might already know about the show, there was no way the writers
could get the storylines that close to their lives without a great
deal of inside information. The redhead kept this to herself, there
was no need to upset her friend any more tonight and they both got
ready for bed each anticipating the following day, but for quite
different reasons.
Rupert Giles ex-watcher and unemployed librarian sat in his
favourite armchair slowly sipping a cup of tea and enjoying the last
few moments of peace before the others descended upon his home, and
in Xander's case, his stash of snack food. A small frown appeared as
he tried to think of a reason why Willow had called this 'extraordinary Scooby meeting'. There were no prophesies on the
horizon, maybe he should check his books just to be sure.
Before he could rise from his chair the door opened with a crash and
the three friends entered with Xander begging Willow to tell him what
the danger was this time.
"For the last time Xander I'll tell you when we're all together,
which is now I guess, hi Giles!"
"Hello Willow, Xander, ...Buffy?" The watcher looked in concern at
his Slayer, she seemed lost in thought.
"Oh Giles, umm..hi!" Buffy greeted him and then blushed and bolted
for the sofa.
He turned to Willow with a raised eyebrow questioning the cause of
his Slayer's strange behaviour.
"Ok people, take your seats and I'll tell you the latest puzzle the
Hellmouth has thrown at us."
Two of them looked expectantly at her the other just burried her
head in her hands and refused to look at anyone.
"Do you know there's a television show about us?" She dropped her
bombshell and then watched her friends reactions.
Xander looked shell-shocked and then grinned. "Hey! I wonder who
plays me? Someone goodlooking with plenty of girl appeal." He fell
silent as Willow glared at him. "This is serious Xand," she
said "secret identity, vampire slayage etc."
"Sorry Wills, just got carried away there for a bit. What do we do
about it and can I watch it?"
She held up her hand to forestall any other questions and turned
back to Giles. Xander's outburst had made her miss most of Giles'
reaction but she had caught a glimpse of shock and then... resignation?
"Giles shall I continue?" She asked, and at his nod carried on
explaining. "Let me tell this in one go and then we can discuss and
research if needed, okay? Well I was surfing the net and I decided to
enter 'Buffy' to see what would happen and I got nearly four million
sites about a TV show called 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer'"
Giles let out a groan at this and, standing up began pacing the
floor taking off his glasses and polishing them whilst motioning for
the redhead to continue.
"Well I looked at a few of them and some were about the show and
episodes. The really freaky thing is the things in the show have all
happened to us, in the same order as the episodes.
There was silence for a moment and then Buffy said quietly, "How could the TV writers know about us, and why haven't we got loads of people coming to Sunnydale to see where the show is set?"
Willow could tell the Slayer had been thinking about this all night
and the redhead put forward her theory.
"The way I see it is this. When you are in Sunnydale or when you
know about vampires and Slayers you don't realise there is a TV show,
but if you are unaware that vampires and Slayers are real then it's
just a really cool show and you think it's made up. Do you understand?" She looked at all her friends.
"These are not the droids you are looking for," Xander said and
Willow smiled, he got it. He continued, "it's like that Jedi mind
trick Obi-wan did in Star Wars, but on the whole world?" He looked
bemused. "Who is powerful enough to pull off a spell like that?" The
three teenagers looked at each other.
"Me." Said Giles as he replaced his glasses and faced them "I am."
He bowed his head, waiting for the outburst he was sure would follow
his admission. Hearing nothing he raised his head.
Willow was looking at him in awe, Xander was grinning, Giles could
see the boy was ready to burst with several witty comments, and Buffy
was regarding her Watcher with an enigmatic smile.
"Wow Giles, how much power does it take to cast a spell like that?"
Willow breathed.
"Um.. well not as much as you think really, I set it up to be self-
sustaining, you see..."
"So do you write each episode then Giles?" Buffy interrupted
forestalling a descent into the realms of magic.
"Yes, I do, although I use several pseudonyms depending on the mood
of the episode," he looked at her seriously before continuing, "Buffy
I understand how you must be feeling, I've betrayed you and that is
unforgivable, I'm so sorry."
She patted the empty seat next to her and he sank down gratefully,
it was a bit unnerving having three people staring up at him. Buffy
surprised him by taking his hands and holding them gently. Her next
words surprised him again.
"I know you are and, I was mad at first but after reading some of
the sites I realised what you were doing. You were telling people how
to defeat vamps and other nasties without scaring the pants off them,
and I bet you made alot of money too." She smiled at him and he
clasped her hands tighter as he gazed warmly into her eyes, thanking
her without words for her support.
'I guess Buffy did a lot of thinking last night,' Willow mused and
then she remembered something Giles had said. She cleared her throat,
breaking the tender moment between Watcher and Slayer,
"That explains a lot Giles, the bit about the mood I mean."
"What are you talking about Wills?" Xander had regained his wits and
was gearing up for some verbal thrust and parry when he heard her
begin to speak.
"I mean the difference between episodes. Some are quite dark, some
are funny and some are really cute and shippy...eep!" She stopped
speaking at a glare from Buffy reminding the redhead there was still
more than one secret untold.
"Shippy? I'm not familiar with that word and you lot have expanded
my vocabulary considerably."
"I'll explain it then guys, okay?" She looked at Buffy and got a nod
from the Slayer who was congratulating herself on her non-outward
reaction to Giles' touch, despite her heart threatening to burst it
was racing so much.
"Some of the websites I looked at were about the show but a lot of
them were fanfiction. That's when the fans of the show take the
characters and write their own stories using them as they wish.
Shippy is about the relationships the write about and a shipper is
the fan who supports a particular couple."
"You mean I get to be with you and Buff? Wow I must read, Will!
Reading is good, reading is fun!"
"Sure Xand but there are only a few of those, there are a lot more
with you and Spike." Willow was rewarded with a look of horror and a
vehement denial of gay status from Xander.
"What episodes are 'shippy' then, Willow?" Giles asked.
"Prom and Helpless are some of the main ones."
"For what pairing?"
"You and Buffy."
Giles closed his eyes and remembered both episodes, wondering how much of his feelings he had unwittingly revealed.
"The stories are very good." His eyes flew open and he stared in
shock at Buffy.
"Y-you've read them?!"
"Yep! And we have a lot to talk about mister."
At this point Willow decided that the pair of them should work this
out without an audience. Dragging a protesting Xander out of the door
she waved a general goodbye to her friends, despite the fact that
they were lost in a world of their own on the sofa.
Buffy had indeed spent most of the night thinking and as well as
coming to the conclusion that whoever was writing the television show
was doing the world a valuable service, she had also decided to
carpe her Watcher at the earliest opportunity by showing him she was
capable of mature, sensible behaviour in their current situation,
instead of the usual teenage reactions. Once she was over wigging
about their first meeting after this decision Buffy was ready to
calmly discuss her feelings and find out if they were returned.
Giles was frantically trying to imagine what his Slayer could have
read, and how all the recent disclosures would affect their slaying
relationship.
"W-wh-what do we have to talk about?" He asked nervously.
"We can start with the subtext on the TV show and go on from there.
How do you send the scripts in?"
"Why?"
"If you email them it would mean you have computer access here and
it would be so much easier to explain if I can show you as well."
Buffy waited as Giles got up and moved to a desk in the corner of
the room pushing aside several dusty books to reveal a closed laptop
computer lying on the desktop.
Drawing up a chair he shot her a sheepish smile.
Her eyes widened as she took in the familiar way he handled the
setting up and connecting process.
"More secrets?" She smiled, and he explained how Jenny had educated
him in the benefit of computer skills, he also smiled inwardly as he
remembered some of the ways she rewarded him for his reluctant
progress in her 'class'. He apologised for not revealing his new
talent but he didn't want to take over Willow's place in the group,
so he had kept quiet.
"..Although now she is such a secure confident person I think she
could stand a little competition." He grinned at her, before suddenly
blushing and turning away as their eyes met unexpectedly. "Anyway,
there you are Buffy, now what do you wish to show me?"
She leaned over his shoulder causing hum to shudder and blush even
more as he realised just what was pressing very firmly against his
back.
"Um... d-d-don't ...you th-think th-this w-would ...be e-easier if
you ...w-were s-sitting down?" He was afraid his Slayer would notice
the affect she was having on him and be repelled with plenty
of 'ewwws'.
Buffy smiled to herself as she moved a chair closer to the desk. It
seemed her watcher liked her, he reacted very nicely to her nearness.
Now to see his reaction to the information she had found.
She slid the laptop across the desk and with a few clicks found what
she was looking for.
"Here it is 'Buffygiles.com' this is a bit on why we, I mean our
characters are so right for each other."
Buffy watched as Giles slowly scanned the page a flush spreading up
his face as he read. She hoped he hadn't noticed her unintentional
slip, 'yeah right Buff, unintentional, can we say Freud boys and
girls!'
"There's another one at a different site that quotes from certain
episodes do you want me to find it?"
"No! I-I mean, th-thats quite a-alright I..." He cleared his throat,
collecting his scattered thoughts. "I think you've embarrassed me
enough for one night."
She stood and closing the laptop pulled her flustered watcher back
to the sofa. She reached up and gently removed his glasses; there
would be no mre hiding tonight. Placing them safely on the table
behind them, Buffy took Giles' hands in her much smaller ones and
looked her Watcher straight in the eyes.
"Giles, I never meant to embarrass you. I just wondered if you were
aware of how much subtext there was in the scripts, especially about
us." She smiled slightly and tilting her head to one side added, "in
fact many people on the sites think we should be together," she took
a deep breath and with love in her eyes asked, "do you?"
Giles stared in disbelief. Was it possible he had revealed his
hidden feelings through the show? He hoped not; as an essentially
private man he shied away from broadcasting his feelings. yet the
emotion in his slayers' eyes was unmistakeable... did she love him?
He squelched the thought, it just wasn't possible - not in this
reality. clearing his throat once more he squeezed her hands slightly
in apology.
"Buffy, truly, I never intended for any personal feelings to slip
into my writing."
"But the're about us, it has to be personal." She countered.
"Yes, I can assure you any subtext is unintentional, I was unaware
of it until you pointed it out, but in answer to your question, we
will always be together. Watcher and Slayer destinies, remember?"
He waited still unable to believe she could love him. He would wait
for her next move and take his cue from that.
Buffy sighed. Was he really that oblivious or just stalling? As she
continued to gaze into his eyes she saw fear, hope and a strong
unwavering love. The emotions she saw prompted her to lean in close
enough to feel his breath on her face, and she whispered,
"I want more than the Watcher. I want the wonderful sexy man I read
about and I know is right in front of me. I want you Rupert Giles."
Her eyes closed as she leaned forwards and softly brushed her lips
across his, before pulling away to await his reaction.
There was an audible silence as the fact that his Slayer had just
kissed him permeated his usually intelligent brain. He looked
hopefully at her, "Is this real Buffy or just the influence of a fictional fantasy about our relationship?"
She smiled gently at him.
"It's real Giles, I loved you as a friend but I never allowed myself
to think of you any other way until I read those stories, and *wow* I
can't wait to experience some of the things they wrote."
"Wh-what things?"
"Uh-uh, no changing the subject."
"What subject?" He asked with a small smile.
"Us, you and me, is there an us?"
Buffy watched as his smile grew, beginning with his oh-so kissable
lips and moving up to his eyes. She had to hold her breath at his
expression, she had never seen him like this before, totally happy.
as she exhaled slowly her smile matched his.
Giles raised their hands and turning hers over he pressed a kiss
into each palm and then closed her fingers to hold the kiss in place.
"I love you Buffy."
He allowed her hands to fall and placing his either side of her
face, drew his Slayer towards him his eyes signalling his intent as
he kissed her. Nibbling and sucking gently on her lips, his hands
threaded through her hair as he increased the pressure of the kiss
until a gasp from his love allowed his tongue to find hers, and they
began to fight with each other in the sweetest duel they had ever
fought.
They broke apart, each needing to breathe; their pulses racing and
skin flushed.
"Well," Giles enquired with a Ripperish grin, "how did the reality
measure up to the fantasy?"
"I think I need more research Watcher-mine, are you up for the job?"
"Oh, I think I can *definitely* say I'm up for more research, my
dear."
Buffy shrieked as he lifted her into his lap and proceeded to kiss
her senseless.
